Job summary

Duke Athletics seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer to oversee care for student-athletes in NCAA Division I sports, with primary focus on Rowing. The role reports to the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine and is a 12-month position.

The successful candidate will provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries, collaborate with physicians, and maintain documentation per standards. Requires CAATE-accredited master’s, BOC, and NC licensure eligibility.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited program.
• BOC certification and certification maintained in good standing.
• Eligible for North Carolina athletic trainer licensure or currently licensed in North Carolina prior to employment.
• Minimum of three years of experience providing athletic training services to NCAA student-athletes.
• Athletic training experience with Rowing preferred.
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Understanding of contemporary sports medicine principles, including rehabilitation, return-to-play decision-making, and sports science technologies.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses.
• Coordinate medical care for assigned student-athletes in collaboration with team physicians and the sports medicine team.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, coaches, student-athletes, parents/guardians, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Educate and counsel student-athletes regarding injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and overall health and wellness.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with departmental, institutional, NCAA, and legal standards.
• Participate in event and practice coverage as assigned.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine.
