ATHLETIC TRAINER

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an Athletic Trainer to provide direct and indirect care to patients at Duke North Carolina Orthopaedic Clinic in Durham, NC.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Patient Care Responsibilities: Rooming patients, collecting histories, documenting first pass HPI, charting, answering phone calls, completing forms, teaching HEP, walking with crutches.
  2. Clerical Duties: Preparing clinics, obtaining test results, updating charts, verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations, coordinating referrals and appointments.
  3. Fulfills EOC Responsibilities: Cleaning exam rooms, ordering and stocking supplies, restocking exam rooms, cleaning exam tables, maintaining a safe work environment by checking for expired supplies and medications, emptying sharps containers.
  4. Organizational Duties: Promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, following HR, Compliance, and Joint Commission policies.
  5. State Law Responsibilities: Autoclaving, checking vital signs, suture removal, dressing changes, entering orders based on physician protocols, biohazard waste management, applying DME to patients.
  6. Additional Skills: Developing the ability to remove casts, apply basic splints and casts to upper and lower extremities, and accurately fit all DME used in the clinic.
  7. Post-operative Evaluation: Some athletic trainers may be assigned to evaluate patients during their first post-operative visit, with physician or APP support. Notes will be co-signed by the MD or APP.
  8. Other duties as assigned by your manager or HCA.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or equivalent from a CAATE-accredited program.
  • NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association-Board of Certification).
