Job summary

The Detroit Public Schools Community District is seeking an Athletic Coordinator for Mumford High School to oversee a comprehensive high school athletics program, coordinating scheduling, eligibility, equipment, and safety in partnership with district policies and the Office of Athletics.

Responsibilities include budget oversight, staff supervision, and ensuring community engagement while maintaining high professional standards and effective communication with parents and district leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health, Fitness, Athletic Training or related fields is required.
• Master's degree in Ed Leadership or related field is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of related education experience including classroom teaching.
• At least 5 years in coaching/athletics/sports management/athletic coordinator roles in urban or multicultural settings.
• Experience managing budgets and personnel is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all major functions of athletics at local high schools.
• Be available for after-school, evenings, weekends, practices and events.
• Monitor scholar-athletes' academic eligibility, attendance, behavior and development.
• Supervise all athletics coaches in the building.
• Coordinate the sports program with the Principal/Administrators and coaching staff.
• Ensure compliance with state, district, and school policies and budgets.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Health, Fitness, Athletic Training or related fields

Master's degree in Ed Leadership, or Health and Fitness, Athletic Training or related field

Five years of related education experience including classroom teaching

Five years coaching/athletics/sports management/athletic coordinator experience in urban/multicultural setting

Experience managing budgets and personnel
