Job summary

Charleston Southern University is seeking a reliable Grounds Assistant to support maintenance of NCAA Division I athletic fields and campus grounds. The role emphasizes turf management, irrigation, mowing, and infield upkeep to ensure safe playing surfaces and an attractive campus aligned with the university’s mission.

The position requires a high school diploma, 2+ years of grounds experience, and a valid SC driver’s license.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED is required.
2+ years of grounds maintenance experience, preferably with athletic turf or sports fields.
Working knowledge of turfgrass management and irrigation systems.
Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment.
Valid South Carolina driver’s license (or ability to obtain) with a clean driving record.
Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays for events.
Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality results.

Responsibilities

Perform daily and seasonal turf maintenance on athletic fields (mowing, edging, fertilization, weed/pest control).
Maintain irrigation systems: inspect, repair, program, troubleshoot components.
Handle infield grooming and field setup for practices and games.
Prepare fields for events, including lining and equipment setup.
Monitor field conditions and report safety/playability issues to supervisor.
Assist with general campus grounds tasks (landscaping, litter pickup, pressure washing).
Operate and maintain grounds equipment safely following safety protocols.
