Job Description
TITLE: DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND ATHLETICS
Job Goal: To provide substantial and effective leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining comprehensive interscholastic athletic and district Physical Education & Health programs.
Qualifications
Administrative Certification (required);
NYS Physical Education and Health Teaching Certification;
Minimum of four (4) years of teaching and coaching experience (preferred);
Standard CPR and First Aid Certifications;
Demonstrated effective experience in working collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians;
Demonstrated effective experience in planning, communication, budget, and public relations;
Reports to the Superintendent of Schools in collaboration with building and district administration.

Teachers of physical education, health and related fields
Athletic Coaches and Assistants
Athletic Clerical Staff
General Responsibilities
Maintaining and enhancing the District Physical Education, Health, and Athletics Programs through implementation of State and Local mandates.
Coordinating a district-wide Physical Education and Health Program.
Facilitate the development of PE and Health curricula for each grade level.
Assisting principals and superintendent in improving staff performance.
Leading the district Wellness Committee.
Conducting appropriate physical education exams and maintaining records of students’ progress.
Maintaining inventory of physical education equipment.
Develop and maintain an intramural program.
Make recommendations to the Superintendent to appoint qualified coaches for all athletic teams.
Responsible for the athletic budget in collaboration with the Middle School and High School Principals and facilitating grant opportunities for health and wellness.
Develop with the coaches a sound program of safety for all teams.
Implement the rules and regulations of the Commissioner of New York State Education department, New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), and Board of Education policies such as coaching certifications, athlete eligibility, and training rules.
Coordinate the Interscholastic Athletic Schedule with other school activities.
Schedule all Interscholastic athletic contests in alignment with Section IX and the OCIAA.
Responsible for security, supervision, being visible, and safety at all home contests.
Responsible for the assignment of facilities on an equal basis for boys and girls athletic teams.
Responsible for all athletic equipment:Purchase, Repairs, Distribution, Inventory & Storage
With the Director of Facilities shall be responsible for the playing condition of all outside athletic facilities.
With the Assistant Superintendent for Business, shall be responsible for transportation for away games.
With the School Nurse and School Doctor, shall be responsible for the pre-season physical examination of all athletes.
Serve as a member of the District Safety Committee.
Create and implement a long term athletics plan to create student-athlete success in the classrooms and during athletic competitions.
Creation and maintenance of a multi-year uniform plan.
Plan and execute Varsity Athletic Block L awards along with JV and Modified recognition.
Supervise and support Athletes Helping Athletes program.
Act as liaison or moderator to Liberty Parks and Recreation Department, Booster Club or parent support group.
Develop and supervise a system of news releases to area media relating to schedules and the achievements of teams, players, and coaches.
Develop, maintain, and coordinate effective relationships and high morale relating to the athletic program among teachers, students, coaches, parents, community and state organizations.
In collaboration with building administration, plan and execute promotional activities such as pep rallies, youth clinics, etc.
Promote NYSPHSAA programs such as Scholar Athlete, Sportsmanship, Hazing Prevention, Anyone Can Save a Life, and other support initiated by the association.
Review and update the K - 12 Physical Education Plan on an annual basis.
To assume any other responsibilities deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools.
