Student Athletics Manager (Associate Athletics Director for Facilities and Operations)

POSITION DETAILS

ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) led by President Karol V. Mason. An internationally recognized leader in educating for justice, John Jay is also a federally designated Hispanic-serving institution, it is ranked third in the nation in Black student success, and it is a top ten institution for promoting student social mobility.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Manage the schedule for all athletics facilities, including for practice and games of varsity sports, recreation and intramurals activities, campus events, and external rental activities.

  • Oversee the space rental process, including client management, contracts, scheduling, facility and audio/visual work orders, training and supervision of staff.

  • Oversee upkeep and maintenance of all athletics facilities, including the Fitness Center, Main and Auxiliary Gymnasiums, Racquetball Court, Rifle Range, Tennis Court, Pool, Locker Rooms, and multipurpose rooms.

  • Submit facilities and technology work orders for equipment and facility work orders necessary for the successful operations of facilities and events. Schedule and maintain van fleet.

  • Supervise aquatics, recreation, space rental operations, and facility management staff. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all Federal Work Study students and facility/recreation support staff. Play a key role in developing a professional standard for all support staff. Supervise a minimum of two varsity sport programs.

  • Enforce policies and procedures for all facilities and outside venues; periodically review and maintain emergency action plans for all facilities. Adhere to all NCAA, CUNY and John Jay policies and procedures.

  • Organize, market, and provide financial oversight over camps and clinics hosted by varsity athletic programs for revenue to teams and the department.

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development and training as appropriate.

  • Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual’s goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals. Model professionalism and communicate effectively: exude integrity; inspire others; exhibit effective level of verbal and written communication; promote and represent the mission and core values of the John Jay Department of Athletics.

  • All other duties as assigned or needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, Master’s preferred.

  • 6+ years’ experience in facility, business and customer service related field preferred.

  • Microsoft Suite proficiency required.

  • EMS Scheduling proficiency preferred.

  • Current CPR / AED certifications required.

  • Experience in hiring, supervising, and training staff and developing schedules to assure all work and work areas are covered.

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

  • Must have excellent customer and staff relation skills.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

  • Manages selected aspects of intercollegiate, intramural and recreational athletics staff, programs, facilities and activities.

  • Oversees and coordinates day-to-day operations for varsity sports, supervising coaching and event staff.

  • Manages one or more athletic facilities.

  • Administers scheduling and other arrangements for athletic contests and events.

  • Supervises the intramural and recreation program.

  • Produces athletic publications through various media sources; develops and produces marketing and promotional programs.

  • Maintain computer files, statistics, and reports on all data related to the athletics program.

  • Oversees academic progress of student athletes and works with other College units to assure their academic and personal success.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$76,395 - $90,375. Salary commensurate with education and experience. CUNY's benefits contribute significantly to total compensation, supporting health and wellness, financial well-being, and professional development.
