Responsibilities

• Clean interior and exterior of the building; manage trash and debris removal.

• Transport, move, and set up tables, chairs, and equipment for events.
• Support grounds maintenance during ice rink off-season, including turf and irrigation work.
• Assist in opening and closing outdoor pool and various events support.
• Operate vehicles and grounds equipment and update work orders in the system.

Summary of Position:

Milton Academy is seeking an Athletic Center Attendant / Groundskeeper to support the maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the Athletic and Convocation Center and campus grounds. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining athletic facilities, caring for the ice rink, basketball courts, indoor track, fitness center, lawns, athletic fields, and landscaped areas, and assisting with event setup and breakdown throughout the year. When the ice rink is closed, the position primarily supports grounds maintenance. This role works collaboratively with the Facilities Services team and interacts regularly with students, faculty, staff, coaches, visitors, and vendors.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Athletic Center Attendant

Maintains ice rink, including: keeping logs for refrigeration equipment; preparing the ice for use and ensuring a clean and safe ice surface; operating and maintaining Zamboni and ice edger; monitoring refrigeration equipment.

Ensures that rink policies and schedules are adhered to by communicating with patrons, visitors and employees.

Supports Athletic Center activities, keeping and maintaining a schedule which includes curriculum physical education, after school sports, summer programs and rental group periods of building use.

Ensures that the building, including locker rooms, rest rooms and common areas, are kept clean at all times through coordination with the school’s cleaning vendor.

Cleans the inside and outside of the building (litter, emptying trash barrels, etc.) so that the interior and exterior of the building are neatly maintained and free of trash and debris.

Participates in the set up and dismantling of the ice rink.

Participates in snow removal activities; shovels snow from stairs, walks and driveways; hand-spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice build-up.

Transports, moves, loads, sets up and dismantles tables, chairs, platforms, materials and other equipment in support of various events and operations.

Other duties as assigned.

Groundskeeper (when ice rink is closed - spring/summer/fall)

Cultivates, maintains, repairs and restores turf, athletic fields and trees through mowing, weeding, raking, aerating, de-thatching, seeding, mulching, pruning, fertilizing and other similar activities; observes, inspects and maintains campus irrigation systems.

Assist in measuring, staking, and establishing the layout of athletic fields for outdoor sports. Assembles, maintains and repairs various outdoor athletic equipment, including goals and batting cages.

Hand picks, gathers, collects, loads and transports litter/debris from and about the Academy grounds.

Transports, moves, loads, sets up and dismantles tables, chairs, platforms, materials and equipment in support of various events

Assist in the opening and closing of the outdoor pool.

Provides help and assistance as needed/requested by other grounds members.

Operates, inspects and conducts regular maintenance and minor repairs to vehicles and grounds equipment.

Utilize basic computer skills to access and respond to emails, review and print work orders, and update tasks within the computerized work order management system.

Supervision to be received: Supervised by the Associate Director of Grounds.

Education/Certification/Licensure

Required: High School Diploma, or equivalent; valid driver's license.

Experience

Required:

General knowledge of equipment, building and grounds maintenance practices, and athletic facility and field operations.

At least one year of ice rink experience.

Physical Abilities:

Required:

Move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.

Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds

Safely operate motor vehicles and drive a Zamboni

Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing.

Ability to operate landscaping and groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.

Ability to safely use ladders and perform tasks at varying heights when needed.

Work in the elements and extreme conditions.

Know how and be willing to use a manual snow shovel.
