Job summary

The Salvation Army Biloxi is seeking a Part-time Sports Coordinator to lead athletic activities for children. You will plan, instruct, and supervise sports programs, maintaining facilities and promoting good sportsmanship.

Responsibilities include supervising camps and play areas, communicating with parents about performance and schedules, and documenting incidents as needed. A high school diploma or GED and two years of coaching experience are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; two years coaching sports with children or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise groups and enforce discipline when needed.

Schedule/Hours: Part-time – 27.5 hours per week – Monday thru SaturdayThis position is responsible for:Plans, instructs, and leads members participating in athletic activities and sporting events; ensures the proper maintenance of all sporting facilities and equipment; promotes good sportsmanship.Key Responsibilities:Instructs members in the fundamentals of various sports such as football, basketball, baseball, etc.Maintains order and control over members participating in sports; promotes good sportsmanship and practices proper discipline when necessary; maintains open communication with participants’ parents to discuss performance, behavior and schedules.Assists staff as requested, supervises, and monitors children during various camps, programs, and recreational and athletic activities; observes, monitors, and supervises children on the playground.Generates accident and/or incident reports as needed; submits proper documentation to supervisor upon completion.Plans, conducts, and leads team meetings on a regular basis ensuring all team members are aware of sports schedule and plans.Obtains, maintains, and secures sports equipment in compliance with acceptable standards to ensure the long life of equipment.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirementsAbility to read, write and communicate the English languageAbility to perform duties with a combination of frequent sitting, standing and walking.Ability to participate in a variety of sporting events including throwing and catching a ball, running and jumping.Work is performed in a normal gym or sports field environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.Employee Benefits:Paid Time OffRetirement Savings Plan AvailableHigh School diploma or G.E.D., ANDTwo years experience coaching sporting events and working with children, ORany equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Licenses and Certifications:NoneEqual Opportunity Employer: Veterans | Disabled
