Lectures cover astronomy topics with a mix of in-person and online delivery; teaching load is governed by department guidelines and the 12 credit-hour maximum per semester. Requirements include a Master’s in astronomy or physics, 1–2 years of teaching experience in various modalities, and strong communication within a diverse college community.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in astronomy or physics is required.
• 1–2 years of teaching astronomy in different modalities is required.
• Ability to teach in-person and online courses is required.
• Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies is expected.
• Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills in a culturally diverse college community is required.

Responsibilities

• Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department.
• Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
• Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department and divisional policies.
• Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, use available instructional technology when appropriate.
• Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student’s needs.
• Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success.
• Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learning.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress.
• Submit final grade rosters according to established deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Adjunct Faculty cannot be assigned to teach more than the maximum of 12 credit hours per semester.
