Job summary

Western Michigan University is seeking an Associate Vice President for Facilities to lead the planning, design, construction, engineering, maintenance and operation of campus buildings and utilities. The role directs an office that provides master planning, design and construction management, sustainability, and related facilities expertise to WMU.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, management, facilities management or related field from an accredited institution.
• Five+ years of administrative experience at the Director level or above in a large, complex organization.
• Experience managing department leaders and a large team of full-time employees.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion and building an inclusive professional environment.
• Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects.
• Extensive knowledge of capital planning, financial planning, land-use planning and master planning.
• Demonstrated commitment to resource stewardship and sustainability.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Seek out, evaluate, and implement appropriate new approaches to facilities.
• Maintain all buildings, grounds and facilities and proactively manage deferred maintenance.
• Build redundancy in critical systems such as energy management and campus distribution systems.
• Manage all functional areas of responsibility for Facilities.
• Maintain an inclusive, collaborative environment within Facilities and with campus and external constituencies.
• Improve service levels to optimize facilities management and identify efficiencies.
• Oversee budget management and accountability of funds for Facilities.
• Direct campus facilities planning and major construction programs with WMU stakeholders.
• Coordinate with state and federal agencies for project funding and reporting.
• Plan, assess, report and lead team efforts.
• Ensure compliance with AFSCME and MSEA contracts.
