Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking an Associate User Experience Designer to invent the future of electric power through intuitive software interfaces for protecting, controlling, monitoring, and analyzing the power grid.

You will collaborate with UX Designers, Researchers, Product Managers, and Software Developers to transform complex tasks into elegant workflows and rich data visualizations, while championing user needs across projects.

Qualifications

BA/BS degree in interaction, graphic or visual communications design, human computer interaction, or a related field.
Basic experience with graphic design, interaction design and display design principles.
Basic experience with the methodologies and techniques of user experience design.
Basic understanding of user experience research methods.
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
Ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities, and learn sophisticated problem domains.

Responsibilities

End-to-end design of software products with world-class user experience.
Participating in an environment of open collaboration, critique, and communication.
Applying user experience design and validation principles.
Applying visual design and communications principles.
Developing moderate expertise in at least one SEL-specific problem domain.
Participating in conducting user experience research and validation.
Designing solutions to a wide range of complex problems requiring UX creativity and ingenuity.
Working under general supervision of Design Leads, following established procedures.
