Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking an Associate User Experience Designer to craft intuitive interfaces for software that protects, controls, monitors, and analyzes the power grid. You will work with UX Designers, Researchers, Product Managers, and Software Developers to create user-centered designs and innovative data visualizations.

The role requires a BA/BS in a related field and 2+ years of design experience, with strong communication skills and the ability to explain

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in interaction, graphic or visual communications design, human computer interaction, or a related field.
• 2+ years of demonstrable experience in designing, prototyping, and testing user interfaces for Web, mobile, and/or desktop applications or hardware displays.
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities, and learn sophisticated problem domains.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end design of software products with world-class user experience.
• Participating in an environment of open collaboration, critique, and communication.
• Applying user experience design and validation principles and techniques.
• Applying visual design and communications principles and techniques.
• Developing moderate expertise in at least one SEL-specific problem domain.
• Participating in conducting user experience research and validation.
• Designing solutions to a wide range of complex problems requiring UX creativity and ingenuity.
• Working under general supervision of Design Leads, following established procedures.
