Company Summary

The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU) (An Amwins company) is the program administrator of the American Longshore Mutual Association, Ltd. (ALMA), a group self-insurance fund authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor to provide USL&H coverage for the liabilities of its insureds under the United States Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act.

Position Summary

AEU is seeking qualified individuals for the Associate Underwriter position to perform administrative and clerical tasks. Responsibilities include supporting our Underwriting team and retail brokers, assisting with daily office needs, and managing general administrative activities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate high standards, excellent communication skills, and a professional attitude. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Processing requests for new and renewal insurance submissions, analyzing for underwriting criteria based on company guidelines.
  2. Preparing insurance quotes and confirmations for new and renewal policies under the guidance of the underwriting team.
  3. Creating and maintaining reports for tracking business activity.
  4. Ensuring accuracy and compliance in file documentation using paperless filing systems.
  5. Entering data into multiple internet-based systems for policy lifecycle management.
  6. Servicing and billing accounts accurately and timely, monitoring premium transactions.
  7. Communicating with retail agents and insureds to gather information and resolve issues.
  8. Collaborating with team members and other departments for meetings and service requests.
  9. Participating in training to enhance underwriting knowledge.
  10. Providing administrative support and handling other project work as needed.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Experience in commercial insurance or a college degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, or related fields.
  • Strong customer service orientation and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Dependability and reliability.
  • Professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive materials.
