Job description

IAT Insurance Group has an opportunity for an Associate Underwriter to join our Contract Binding team to achieve profitable growth within the company's risk profile while maintaining an acceptable loss ratio with our delegated authority wholesale agents. The title of the role offered will reflect the selected candidate's experience and knowledge. We will consider candidates with significantly more or less experience.

The role will work a hybrid schedule from an IAT office in Scottsdale, AZ, or Cheshire, CT. Occasional travel may be required. This role will require working from an IAT office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working remotely on Thursday and Friday.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates information to determine risk acceptability in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Makes appropriate decisions based on the evaluation of underwriting information.
  • Prices risks per company standards.
  • Effectively communicates and negotiates underwriting and pricing decisions to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Builds effective working relationships with assigned agency personnel as well as internal company staff.
  • Drives acceptable levels of new business opportunities through effective marketing to assigned agents.
  • Participates in quarterly stewardship meetings with key agents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 1 year of related commercial Property and Casualty underwriting experience or equivalent.
  • Equivalent to a degree, and one year is at least five years' experience as a Property and Casualty Underwriter.
  • Must have the ability to react and respond quickly and professionally.
  • Must provide creative, analytical, and innovative thinking to ensure productive problem-solving.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • To qualify, all applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require now, or in the future, VISA sponsorship for employment purposes.

Preferred to Have:

  • Excess and Surplus Lines experience is highly preferred.
