Job description

Associate Underwriters undergo a structured training program that includes hands-on training, industry-specific coursework, mentoring, and job shadowing to build a strong foundation in industry knowledge, aiming to become a Personal Lines Underwriter. Under supervision of mentors and management, Underwriter Trainees evaluate individual insurance applications within set guidelines for policy issuance.

Responsibilities

1. Utilize underwriting criteria to assess risk, including physical property evaluations, driving records, financial ratings, and loss history.
2. Engage with peers, independent agency representatives, and vendors to gather risk information, explain underwriting policies, and negotiate coverage terms and conditions.
3. Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and business partners.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
• Current or pursuing industry licenses, designations, or certificates is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
