Job Description

We are looking for an Associate Trader or Trader for our growing Currency Trading team. This role will be an integral member of an established and collaborative group that delivers a broad range of currency overlay and currency trading solutions to plan sponsors, investment managers, third‑party clients, and Russell Investments funds. The successful candidate will play a key role in the development, execution, and oversight of currency trading strategies. Responsibilities include executing trades across global currency markets, conducting transaction cost analysis, supporting new client onboarding and implementation, providing ongoing client service, and contributing to trading systems and process enhancements. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, global environment while partnering closely with portfolio managers, traders, and client‑facing teams to deliver high‑quality investment and trading outcomes. The role supports trading during EMEA hours, from 12:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time (3:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time). During this shift, you’ll work alongside two equity traders and one derivatives trader, creating strong opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The role also benefits from meaningful overlap with colleagues covering U.S. market hours, as well as four Overlay Portfolio Managers based in London. This global team environment provides broad exposure to different markets, investment strategies, and perspectives, while helping to build a diverse professional network across regions and asset classes. These shift hours will adjust in accordance with North American Daylight Savings.

Responsibilities
  • Execute and negotiate foreign exchange transactions (spots, forwards, swaps, and options).
  • Work closely with internal resources (including operations, legal/compliance and portfolio managers) to establish new accounts.
  • Serve as primary contact for a subset of clients.
  • Monitor and evaluate trading results.
  • Report results to clients, answer client questions, and assist in the identification of additional business opportunities.
  • Work with internal and external developers to design, develop and test tools to automate manual functions and improve risk controls.
  • Work closely with other team members on FX transaction cost analysis (TCA) projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or Mathematics.
  • MBA/CFA or progress toward desired.
  • 2-5 years of relevant trading experience, with specific experience in foreign exchange preferred.
  • Knowledge of electronic execution platforms and trading systems.
  • Knowledge of trading costs and settlement practices.
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • Technology skills, including strong proficiency with Excel and comfort with database applications.
  • Proven client service abilities.
  • Analytical, detail‑oriented and very precise with numbers with a strong attention to detail.
