Job Description: Associate Teacher

Bank Street Family Center is seeking an associate teacher to assist in implementing a developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum that encourages exploration, discovery, and promotes positive self-image. The role involves supporting the lead teacher in various responsibilities to ensure a safe, engaging, and educational environment for children.

Responsibilities

• Model positive social interactions and language.
• Implement positive classroom management strategies consistent with guidelines from Bank Street College and NYC Department of Health/Bureau of Day Care.
• Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children through close supervision.
• Assist in planning and executing developmentally appropriate curriculum supporting individual growth.
• Contribute to stimulating lessons that promote exploration and creativity.
• Work with parents to foster understanding of their child's development.
• Communicate effectively with parents through verbal and written means, including blogs, newsletters, and reports.
• Document student progress and maintain records on development and concerns.
• Attend trainings, meetings, and professional development workshops.
• Engage in reflective supervision and collaborate with the lead teacher and faculty advisors.
• Participate in parent conferences and meetings, sometimes outside regular hours.
• Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and administrators.
• Follow all relevant guidelines and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the director.

Qualifications

• Qualify for New York State Education Department Assistant Teacher Certification.
