Job summary

WSP USA in Los Angeles, CA is seeking an Associate Structural Engineer to contribute to the Property and Buildings Team on residential, institutional, and commercial projects. You will support design, analysis, and documentation for new and retrofit work, under guidance from senior engineers.

The role emphasizes collaboration with engineers and project managers, creation of calculations, drawings, and BIM models, and adherence to safety and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• 1–3 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
• Analytical mindset with judgement in evaluating situations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with technical writing, spreadsheets, and engineering tools.
• Experience with design software: SAFE, ETABS, RAM Structural Systems, Sp Column, AutoCAD, Revit, Excel.

Responsibilities

• Design concrete, CMU, steel, light-frame wood, and mass timber structures for various projects.
• Develop retrofitting and resiliency assessments for existing buildings.
• Utilize modeling, design standards, and documentation to ensure safety and functionality.
• Coordinate with teams via meetings, BIM modeling, and site observations.
