Job description

Conrad Consulting is working with a leading multidisciplinary engineering and construction consulting firm looking to appoint an Associate Structural Engineer to its Manhattan office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer with a strong technical background who is looking to take the next step in their career with an established and highly respected engineering consultancy.

The company has an excellent reputation across the Northeast, delivering complex structural engineering projects for public and private sector clients, including commercial buildings, institutional facilities, infrastructure, and major renovation projects.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the technical delivery of structural engineering projects, providing engineering expertise, overseeing design quality, and supporting the development of junior engineers.

While this position carries senior-level responsibility, the primary focus is technical engineering excellence rather than business development, making it particularly attractive to engineers who enjoy solving complex structural challenges.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Salary: Competitive base salary of $150,000 – $170,000, depending on experience.
  • Technical Leadership: Take ownership of challenging structural engineering projects and become a key technical resource within the team.
  • Project Variety: Work on a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, infrastructure, and existing building projects.
  • Career Progression: Join at Associate level with opportunities to progress into more senior technical and leadership positions.
  • Established Business: Join a nationally recognized multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong pipeline of projects.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work alongside experienced structural engineers, architects, construction managers, and other technical specialists.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the structural analysis, design, and technical delivery of complex building and infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical expertise in the design of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and other structural systems.
  • Oversee structural calculations, engineering reports, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Review structural designs and drawings to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and project requirements.
  • Act as a technical resource for project teams, providing guidance on complex structural engineering challenges.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the design and construction process.
  • Mentor and support junior structural engineers, reviewing their work and contributing to their technical development.
  • Participate in site visits, construction administration, structural assessments, and the resolution of field-related engineering issues.
What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of structural engineering experience, ideally within a consulting engineering environment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferably registered in New York or with the ability to obtain NY licensure.
  • Strong technical background in structural analysis, design, and engineering calculations.
  • Extensive experience designing structural steel and reinforced concrete building systems.
  • Proven ability to independently manage the technical aspects of complex structural engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable building codes and design standards, including IBC, NYC Building Code, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, SAFE, or similar platforms.
  • Experience reviewing and approving structural calculations, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. A master's degree in Structural Engineering would be advantageous.
Interested in Learning More?

This opportunity would suit a Senior Structural Engineer, Structural Project Manager, Technical Lead, or existing Associate Structural Engineer who enjoys the technical side of engineering and wants to continue developing their career without moving entirely away from design.

With a salary of $150,000 – $170,000 and the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects within an established engineering business, this is an excellent opportunity for the right individual.
