Kohl1s is seeking an Associate Reliability Engineer to ensure the resilience and availability of the company1s systems and applications. You will drive incident response efforts, perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures to enhance system reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in MIS, Computer Science or related field.
• Experience programming in Java, Python, Go or Node.js.
• Working experience on IBM Mainframe (TSO/ISPF, JCL, Batch job scheduling, transaction processing (CICS) and Security (RACF)).
• Basic knowledge of systems architecture, operating system internals and network fundamentals.

Responsabilités

• Follow software lifecycle driving reliability, observability and efficiency across product teams within your domain.
• Identify repeated toil and find opportunities for automation.
• Remain part of an on-call rotation to respond to production incidents and conduct blameless retros and root-cause analyses (RCAs).
• Proactively identify failures before they cause outages using chaos engineering techniques.

What You’ll Do

• Follow software lifecycle driving reliability, observability and efficiency across product teams within your domain
• Identify repeated toil and find opportunities for automation
• Remain part of an on-call rotation to respond to production incidents and conduct blameless retros and root-cause analyses (RCAs) to drive a culture of continuous improvements
• Proactively identify failures before they cause outages by using chaos engineering techniques such as edge cases, failure modes and design review
• Additional tasks may be assigned

Required

What Skills You Have

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in MIS, Computer Science or related field
• Programming skills in one or more languages (Java, Python, Go or Node.js)
• Working experience on IBM Mainframe (TSO/ISPF, JCL, Batch job scheduling, transaction processing (CICS) and Security (RACF)
• Basic knowledge of systems architecture, operating system internals and network fundamentals

Preferred

• Basic knowledge of application design patterns, event-driven architecture, database schemas and testing strategies
• Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, or Azure)
• Working experience with Elixir
• Basic knowledge of continuous integration, continuous deployment and test-driven development
• Basic understanding of containerization and container orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher)
• Basic understanding of configuration management (e.g., Chef, Ansible, Puppet)
• Familiarity with monitoring techniques and tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Tracing)
