Job summary

Wheaton College invites applications for an Associate Provost to join the Academic Affairs leadership team. This full-time role reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and guides curriculum development, faculty success, external partnerships, and resource management within a liberal arts framework.

The Associate Provost will champion innovation, oversee shared governance processes, and collaborate with colleagues across Global Education, Corporate and Foundation Relations,

Qualifications

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in higher education administrative leadership roles, including budgetary oversight and personnel oversight and management
  • Track record of new program development
  • Equivalency: education and experience accepted in lieu of doctoral degree

Responsibilities

  • Lead curricular growth by developing new undergraduate degree programs and expanding graduate programs, including allied health and entrepreneurship
  • Build and manage external academic partnerships, including dual degree programs and workforce development opportunities
  • Create and oversee a comprehensive model for year-round enrollments (summer/winter) to generate new revenue
  • Allocate space and resources across Academic Affairs, coordinating with facilities and ITS to ensure suitable teaching spaces
  • Oversee externally facing Academic Affairs offices (Early Education Center, Arts at Wheaton, Permanent Collection, Beard and Weil Galleries) and explore revenue opportunities
  • Collaborate with Office of the Provost and other stakeholders to plan and implement new initiatives and improve practices

Job Summary/Basic Function

Wheaton College is seeking to hire an Associate Provost to join the Academic Affairs leadership team. The Associate Provost for Academic Innovation and External Relations is a full time administrative and academic leader who works closely with the Office of the Provost to guide the direction, growth, and daily operations of the Academic Affairs unit. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Associate Provost provides both strategic vision and managerial oversight, supporting curriculum development, faculty success, external partnerships, and resource management. A champion of innovation within a liberal arts tradition, the Associate Provost will be responsible for shepherding initiatives though shared governance in a collaborative manner.

Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to
  • Program innovation, development, and expansion. Work within shared governance processes to lead curricular growth through developing new undergraduate degree programs and expanding the scope and reach of graduate programs with a focus on areas that transcend our current curricular footprint. Key areas include allied health and entrepreneurship.
  • Building and managerial external academic partnerships. This will include dual degree programs, articulation agreements and workforce development/professional education opportunities.
  • Creating and managing a comprehensive model for summer and winter enrollments. Serve Wheaton and non-Wheaton students with year-round learning while increasing opportunities for new revenue generation.
  • Allocating space throughout Academic Affairs. Ensuring faculty and staff have appropriate office, lab, studio and other teaching/learning spaces. Working with facilities and ITS to ensure spaces are appropriately furnished and equipped.
  • Supervising externally facing Academic Affairs offices including the Early Education Center, Arts at Wheaton, the Permanent Collection and the Beard and Weil Galleries. Ensuring community is served while exploring opportunities for new revenue generation.
  • Contributing to daily operations and long-term planning in Academic Affairs. Working with the Office of the Provost team and other stakeholders including Global Education, Corporate and Foundation Relations/Sponsored Research, Admission, and Marketing and Communications to explore new initiatives and improve practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • The successful candidate will have 5 to 10 years of experience in higher education administrative leadership roles, including budgetary and personnel oversight and management and a track record of new program development
  • Doctoral Degree
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $150-$175K. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate hired.
