The UN Secretariat's Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) seeks an Associate Programme Management Officer to support its Subprogramme 1, focusing on monitoring, advocacy, and data-driven planning.
This role reports to the Senior Economic Affairs Officer and contributes to enhancing policy coordination and project evaluation.
Organizational context: The Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) mobilizes and coordinates international support for the Programme of Action for LDCs. This role sits within Subprogramme 1, reporting to the Senior Economic Affairs Officer and under the overall guidance of the Director, focusing on enhancing monitoring, follow-up, and advocacy for LDCs.
Job purpose: The Associate Programme Management Officer supports the Subprogramme's mandate to mobilize and coordinate international support for the Programme of Action for Least Developed Countries (LDCs). This involves facilitating the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes and projects, conducting research, and providing substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation. The role contributes to raising awareness and advocating for the special needs of LDCs by preparing analytical documents, supporting meetings, and engaging in outreach activities. Additionally, the officer will assist in data collection, analysis, and visualization to inform planning and reporting, ensuring effective program delivery and contributing to the overall goals of UN-OHRLLS.
Responsibilities: Facilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes and projects, monitoring progress and identifying issues for corrective action. Conduct basic research, collecting and analyzing statistical data from various sources to support programme operations. Provide substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation, including reviewing emerging issues and trends, and contributing to research activities and studies. Prepare written outputs such as background papers, analytical notes, and reports. Offer administrative and substantive support for meetings and conferences, including agenda preparation and logistics. Engage in outreach activities, develop training workshops, and present on assigned topics. Participate in field missions, providing substantive and administrative support and collecting data. Contribute to data analysis, trend identification, and reporting using data visualization methods for planning and decision-making. Perform other duties as required.
Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in business administration, international relations, law, management, economics, or a related field is required. A first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience is acceptable. Candidates who have passed the YPP, NCRE, or G to P exams may qualify with a first-level degree and no experience.
Work experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration, or a related area is required. Experience with international organizations and intergovernmental processes is desirable. Experience in sustainable development issues related to LDCs, and specific deliverables of the Doha Programme of Action, is also desirable.
