Job Description


The School of Engineering at the University of Missouri - Saint Louis (UMSL), invites applications and nominations for three Professor and Program Coordinators, one for each of its three academic programs: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor is expected with the granting of tenure based on an evaluation of the applicant's record. Appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure will be considered for exceptional applicants. UMSL is seeking program coordinators who are visionary and collaborative, student-focused, and research leaders. Primary responsibilities of each coordinator include student recruitment and retention; student success initiatives; faculty assignments and workload; faculty evaluation; and participation in the reappointment, promotion and tenure; curriculum development; program assessment and accreditation; development of research programs; faculty professional development; and coordination and oversight of classroom and laboratory usage.Each coordinator will report to the Founding Director and will play a role on all future hires within their academic unit.

As a tenured or tenure-track faculty member in the School of Engineering, the successful candidate will have and maintain a sustainable record of research and scholarship, teaching excellence, and experience in personnel development, project management, and strategic planning. Faculty in the school will have an opportunity for interdisciplinary collaborations broadly across the university, industries, and AMICSTL, the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Center St. Louis.


Qualifications


The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in the specific disciplines of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, a record of scholarship and securing external funding from various agencies including industries, communication skills, and commitment to teaching excellence, experiential learning, and student success.

About the School

School of Engineering is being established at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) to provide rigorous, relevant and affordable engineering education to a talented population of students to address the evolving need for engineers and economic growth of the region, state and beyond.The UMSL School of Engineering will house our ABET-accredited bachelor of science degree programs in mechanical, electrical and civil engineering. Additional bachelor's degrees, as well as graduate degrees, will be added as the school grows.The school will be committed to accessibility and flexibility ensuring that students can pursue their educational goals in a manner that suites their needs.Faculty will conduct scholarship to expand the bounds of engineering knowledge.The school will be housed in newly renovated teaching and research labs.This includes a Student Project Design Laboratory where students will turn their innovative ideas into reality.This facility is being funded by a $15-million grant from the State of Missouri and is expected to be completed in Fall 2026. The school plans to admit its first cohort of traditional undergraduate students in Fall 2025 with a full-opening upon completion of the renovations in Fall 2026.
