Job summary

Simpson Strong-Tie is seeking a Press Operator in Columbus, OH to run an automatic stamping press, ensure safety and Lean production goals, and support quality standards. This full-time role follows a 6:00 am–4:30 pm Monday–Thursday schedule with potential overtime as needed.

You’ll perform press set-ups with leadership, conduct measurements per blueprints, and help package finished parts while maintaining a clean, safe work area.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1 year related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Safety: prioritize safety and a safe work environment.
  • Accountability & Dependability: reliable, punctual attendance.
  • Physical Demands: stand entire shift, lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Mathematical Reasoning: apply basic math skills.
  • Instruction Comprehension: understand English instructions in various formats.
  • Communication: effective one-on-one and small group communication.
  • Measurements: read tape measure to 1/32", angle measurement with protractor, read micrometer and caliper.
  • Problem Solving: identify options to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Computer Skills: use computer or touchscreen for daily tasks.

YOU

As a Press Operator, you will be responsible for operating an automatic stamping press to produce quality components while maintaining safety, efficiency and LEAN production goals. This position will follow the first shift schedule, Monday - Thursday, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm. Overtime, including additional days, may be required based upon business need.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)
  • Operate automatic stamping presses as needed to support department and company goals. Use powered hand tools to make adjustments to equipment as necessary. (70%)
  • Communicate with department leadership regarding issues and improvements. Assist other associates with press set-ups and changeovers. (10%)
  • Perform quality inspections to blueprints and specifications using provided precision measuring tools and maintain a clean work environment to meet 6S standards. (10%)
  • Count, package and palletize finished product in accordance with work orders. Ensure auxiliary equipment is operating to standard. (10%)
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • 1 year Related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Safety: Able to consistently prioritize safety by demonstrating safe work practices and by promoting a safe work environment.
  • Accountability & Dependability: Able to consistently demonstrate reliable, punctual attendance.
  • Physical Demands: Able to remain standing the entire duration of shift, and lift up to 40 lbs using proper technique consistently.
  • Mathematical Reasoning: Able to apply basic math skills.
  • Instruction Comprehension: Able to comprehend a variety of instructions furnished in English, including written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Communication: Able to communicate one-on-one and in small group settings.
  • Measurements: Able to read a tape measure to 1/32\" tolerance, to use protractor to measure angles to +/- 1 degree and ability to use and read a micrometer, and caliper.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify options for solving a problem encountered during the manufacturing process.
  • Computer Skills: Able to use computer or touchscreen to perform daily tasks and required training.

This position does not require travel.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION

This full-time, non-exempt position is located in Columbus, OH.

RELOCATION

Relocation is not available for this position.

PAY

$16.44 - $24.66 / hour

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, see, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. This role operates large equipment while standing for approximately 8-12 hours, regularly twisting and bending in a repetitive motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with proper equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job may risk exposure to heat and/or cold, loud noise levels, vibration, and moving mechanical parts.
