Job summary

Optimax Systems, Inc. in New York is seeking an Associate Optical Engineer to design and build novel optical systems, including lens design, tolerancing, and test planning.

The role requires collaboration with mechanical, manufacturing, and process engineering teams and may involve presenting on customer calls and design reviews. Qualifications

• B.S. in Optics, Physics, or equivalent required.
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Optics preferred.
• Co-op/internship experience typically a plus.
• Specific experience in lens design using Zemax or Code V (Zemax preferred).
• Knowledge of aberration theory and first order optical layouts.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to collect, interpret, document, and present data.
• Ability to work and contribute in a team setting.

Responsibilities

• Design and build of novel optical systems including lens design and tolerancing.
• Specification definition and test planning for opto-mechanical systems.
• Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and process engineering staff.
• Attend customer calls and design reviews and present findings.
• Perform design studies and write process documentation for prototype and production builds.
