Pinnacle Group in San Diego is seeking an Associate for its Private Equity team. The Associate will handle all aspects of the deal process for PE deals, including secondaries and buyouts, and will work with external managers and internal teams on due diligence and execution.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in finance or related field

  • Proficiency with market research, valuation analyses, and deal documentation

Job description

Our client is a private markets specialist delivering tailored investment solutions, advisory services, and impactful, data-driven insights to the world’s investors.

The firm is seeking an Associate for its Private Equity team in its San Diego office. The associate may work remotely one day per week from the San Diego area.

Responsibilities:
  • Handle all aspects of the deal process for private equity deals focusing on secondaries (as well as buyouts, and special situations)
  • Source and screen direct and secondary investments, leveraging global networks. Evaluate transactions across multiple stages (buyout, growth, venture), sectors, and geographies
  • Collaborate with external fund managers, company leaders, bankers, and internal teams for due diligence and deal execution
  • Perform financial due diligence and market research using advanced analytical models
  • Execute and complete deals efficiently within a collaborative, high-volume environment, crafting creative structures that connect portfolio opportunities
  • Develop and communicate expert investment opinions, defending analyses in team and committee settings. Prepare and present analyses and memos to senior leadership and the Investment Committee
  • Negotiate and coordinate private equity closings and oversee post-close monitoring
  • Monitor investments using proprietary transaction and market data
  • Manage relationships with private equity sponsors, intermediaries, advisors (financial, legal, commercial), and other investors
  • Develop, coach, and lead deal teams; mentor junior team members
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance or a related field; plus three years of experience in the job offered or as an Investment Banking Analyst or related role in the financial services industry
  • Two years of required experience must include:
  • Investment banking: Conducting market research, creating pitch decks and Confidential Information Decks (CIDs) to support M&A efforts, and working with third-party advisors to facilitate buyer due diligence through to deal closing
  • Building bottom-up, three-statement financial models/forecasts, and conducting valuation analyses using methods including discounted cash flow (DCF), precedent transactions, market comparables and leveraged buyout (LBO) methodologies
  • Using platforms including Pitchbook and FactSet to conduct thorough market research and financial analysis, identifying potential investment opportunities and assessing industry trends
  • One year of required experience must include:
  • Executing private equity buyout transactions
  • Performing financial, operational and valuation analyses, including conducting expert calls, working with third-party advisors to support commercial, QofE and tax due diligence, and preparing investment committee memos
  • Building LBO models and performing market-sizing and competitive analysis
  • Performing monitoring of portfolio companies
