Job summary

Talently in New York seeks an Associate for a high-ownership seat across the investment lifecycle, from sourcing and market research through diligence, transaction execution, and post-close value creation. You will work closely with senior investors and portfolio teams, assuming increasing responsibility over time.

You will conduct market research, perform detailed financial analysis and modeling (LBO, DCF, comps), and lead diligence.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, transaction advisory, or a related field with direct deal exposure.
  • Strong technical foundation in accounting, corporate finance, valuation, and financial modeling.
  • Experience analyzing investment opportunities and conducting financial and business diligence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing investment committee materials.
  • High degree of ownership, intellectual curiosity, and sound analytical judgment.
  • Comfortable working in a lean, small-team environment with significant responsibility from day one.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to New York (on-site role).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market and company research to identify and evaluate new investment opportunities across the industrial and consumer sectors.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis, valuation, and modeling - including LBO, DCF, comparable company, and precedent transaction analyses - to assess investment opportunities.
  • Execute business diligence covering target company operations, financial performance, market position, and growth potential.
  • Lead diligence workstreams and prepare investment committee materials including sector teasers and formal investment memoranda.
  • Support deal structuring, negotiation, financing, and closing activities alongside lenders, bankers, and legal counsel.
  • Partner with portfolio company management teams on performance analysis, strategic planning, and value creation initiatives including add-on acquisitions.
  • Conduct sector research and contribute insights to the firm's investment thesis and proprietary research efforts.
  • Assume increasing ownership of transaction and portfolio company workstreams in a true apprenticeship environment where your contributions are visible and valued.

Our client is a New York-based private equity firm with a long, distinguished track record investing in high-growth lower middle market companies across the industrial and consumer sectors. The firm has deep roots in the middle market - and brings a growth-oriented, founder-friendly investment philosophy to control buyouts and growth equity investments in companies with $15-75M of EBITDA. The team is lean, highly collaborative, and operates with an apprenticeship-style culture where Associates take on meaningful ownership from day one.

The Opportunity

This is a high-ownership Associate seat with direct exposure to every stage of the investment lifecycle - from initial sourcing and market research through diligence, transaction execution, and post-close portfolio value creation. You will work directly alongside senior investors and partner closely with portfolio company management teams, with increasing responsibility over deal and research workstreams as you develop within the team.

What You'll Do

Who You Are

  • Familiarity with deal structuring, lender processes, transaction documentation, and closing execution
  • Experience working directly with company management teams or operating partners
