Job description

Associate Instructor - Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN)

Full-time 12-month faculty employee contract. The normal workweek requires a five‑day workweek and includes a minimum of 37.5 hours per week at an approved campus work site for instruction, office hours, and community and college service.

Position Summary

Instructors are responsible for teaching students in our training programs in classroom, hands‑on lab settings, and clinical, ensuring that they gain the knowledge and skills required for entry‑level employment in their chosen field. Instructors also manage classroom environments, promote a positive learning experience, provide support, tutoring, and assistance as needed, and model professional behaviors, language, and activities expected of our students.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Holistic Student Support
  • Model compassionate professionalism as an example to students.
  • Recognize that learning styles differ and tailor strategies accordingly.
  • Integrate programs, activities, and initiatives to optimize the student experience.
  • Provide study strategies and encourage students to try multiple approaches.
  • Monitor student progress to promote success.
  • Provide counseling resources as needed.
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation
  • Develop, adapt, and improve programs and services in response to changing environments and evolving priorities.
  • Provide educational opportunities in leadership, social responsibility, and global citizenship.
  • Utilize classroom and lab instruction, assessment mechanisms, and management techniques to engage students.
  • Ensure each student has material to meet learning objectives.
  • Ensure instructional materials and equipment are ready, adequate, and maintained.
Organizational Culture
  • Understand College goals and priorities as they relate to the student experience.
  • Participate in faculty assessment and professional development; maintain required certification and license.
  • Actively participate in meetings, review assessment data, compile reports, and meet deadlines.
  • Ensure campus compliance with federal, state, and regulatory guidelines and internal policies.
Fiscal Stewardship
  • Manage financial resources in accordance with College policies, values, and fiscal realities.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications:
    • Active and unencumbered registered nurse license in the state of Tennessee.
    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with three years of clinical experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN) and teaching experience preferred.

  • Computer proficiency using routine office software such as MS Office Suite, email, internet, databases, and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication, organization and problem‑solving, planning, and interpersonal skills.

Salary

Commensurate with experience and according to the salary guidelines of the Tennessee Board of Regents.
