Job Description

Responsible for teaching didactic and clinical courses for the certificate Practical Nursing program and/or the Associate in Applied Science Associate Degree in Nursing program. This is a 9 month, tenure‑track position. Base pay listed does not include any overload classes or summer. Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)
  1. In cooperation with other instructors, prepare or revise guides for courses offered in their division and submit to the Division Chair or appropriate administrators for review.
  2. Teach classes assigned by the Division Chair and approved by the Vice President following course outlines approved by the college.
  3. In cooperation with other instructors, prepare textbook recommendations and submit to the Division Chair for review.
  4. Prepare requests for the purchase of new library books and materials as needed and submit these requests to the Division Chair for review.
  5. Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the institution.
  6. Attend division meetings called by the Division Chair and faculty meetings called by the Director or other administrative officers.
  7. Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time.
  8. Cooperate in the promotion of extracurricular activities by accepting reasonable assignments and encouraging student participation.
  9. Serve on committees for the betterment of the College and Nursing programs as may be established by the administration and faculty.
  10. Consider the general and special needs of the student. Assist students in meeting needs or solving problems, when necessary, seek additional help from other college services.
  11. Observe, support and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the college and inform the President in writing of any problem that might have a detrimental effect on the college.
  12. Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  13. Notify the appropriate administrator well in advance of absences.
  14. Advise students assigned by student services.
  15. Focus upon student recruitment, retention and success.
  16. Show an understanding of the community college philosophy including its unique ties to the workforce and its district.
  17. Work as a member of a team.
  18. Participate in development activities and maintain current perspectives in class presentations.
  19. Develop, assess and maintain data for course and program assessment.
  20. Perform ongoing assessment to meet College and Program standards.
  21. Prepare for National Accreditation activities.
  22. Participate in National Accreditation activities.
  23. Other related duties as assigned.
Specific Functional Job Requirements
Education Requirements
  • Master's degree in Nursing Education or a related advanced practice nursing program preferred; minimum of bachelor's degree with a written plan to complete MSN within a 2‑year period of employment.
  • Current Illinois license to practice professional nursing.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and two years' experience in clinical nursing practice.
Experience Requirements
  • Two years' experience in clinical nursing practice.

Skills
