Job summary

The University of Minnesota is seeking an Associate Head Track and Field Coach to develop and maintain a competitive Division II program in line with NCAA rules and university philosophy. The associate head coach will build strong relationships within the Department of Athletics, the University, community, and alumni, and represent the program positively in public forums.

Key duties include program administration, academics support, coaching and recruitment, external relations, and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of 2 years of combined progressive coaching or participation experience at high school, collegiate, or international levels.
• Demonstrated experience in recruiting student-athletes.
• Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations.
• Leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students, families, alumni, donors, campus partners, and external constituents.
• Commitment to academic success, student-athlete well-being, and building an inclusive team culture.
• Understanding of evolving Division II athletics landscape, including NIL, transfer processes, roster/scholarship management, and related student-athlete benefit rules.

Responsibilities

• Assist in budget planning and management, scheduling competitions, and planning and executing team travel.
• Monitor academic performance and support student-athletes to achieve their potential; organize class schedules and study tables.
• Instruct and teach track and field fundamentals and events; plan and execute practices and evaluate opponents; develop leadership skills in athletes.
• Establish and maintain relationships within the Department of Athletics, the University, community, alumni, high school coaches, media and the public; support fundraising and promotions.
• Evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes to UMD whose athletic and academic credentials align with program standards.
• Ensure compliance with NCAA rules and regulations; manage roster and scholarship processes.
