Sony Biotechnology Inc. seeks an Associate Field Service Engineer to train with our flow cytometry service team in the Southern California region, based in Los Angeles or San Diego.

This fixed-term position lasts up to 12 months and may lead to a full-time Field Service Engineer I role for top performers. Qualifications

• Recent college graduates within the past 6 months.
• 2-year Associate or 4-year Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
• Degrees in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Life Sciences, or related technical disciplines.
• Interest in field service, laboratory instrumentation, medical devices, biotechnology, or life science equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong customer focus and professional communication skills.
• Highly organized with good follow‑up skills.
• Self‑motivated team player with a willingness to learn.
• Basic understanding of flow cytometry or related disciplines is a plus.
• Computer skills including typing, email, and basic software use.

Responsibilities

• Train with Field Service Engineers at customer sites (installations, preventive maintenance, repairs).
• Assist with troubleshooting technical issues related to flow cytometry instrumentation.
• Learn and follow service procedures, safety standards, and documentation requirements; use Salesforce and prepare Field Service Reports.
• Communicate product quality observations or service concerns to team members.
• Work with Field Service, Sales, and Field Applications teams.
• Support customer satisfaction through professional communication and timely follow-up.
• Maintain service parts inventory and complete expense reports; log hours weekly.
• Develop understanding of flow cytometry systems (optics, fluidics, electronics, pneumatics).
• Travel to customer sites as required within the assigned region.

Position Summary

Sony Biotechnology is seeking a Associate Field Service Engineer to train with our flow cytometry service team in the Southern California Region in Los Angeles or San Diego. This is a fixed-term position of up to 12 months, designed for recent college graduates interested in gaining hands‑on technical field experience. The position may potentially lead to a full‑time regular Field Service Engineer I position for selected candidates, based on business needs, performance, and qualifications. The Associate Field Service Engineer will work alongside experienced Field Service Engineers to learn how to support flow cytometry equipment at customer sites through installations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services. This will lead to working independently.

Primary Region

• Southern California: LA, SD, and surrounding cities
• Periodic travel to Western Canada and other West sub‑regions may be required on an as‑needed basis

Key Responsibilities

• Train alongside Field Service Engineers at customer site visits, including installations, preventive maintenance, and repairs
• Assist with troubleshooting technical issues related to flow cytometry instrumentation
• Learn and follow service procedures, technical memos, safety standards, and documentation requirements, along with how to use Salesforce and prepare a Field Service Report.
• Communicate product quality observations or service concerns to appropriate team members
• Work closely with Field Service, Sales, and Field Applications teams
• Support customer satisfaction through professional communication and timely follow‑up
• Assist with maintaining service parts and inventory organization, completing expense reports in a timely manner and entering hours into your timesheet on a weekly basis.
• Develop understanding of flow cytometry systems, including optics, fluidics, electronics, and pneumatics
• Travel to customer sites as required within the assigned region

Qualifications For Position

Your qualifications and experience should include:

• Applicants should be recent college graduates within the past 6 months
• Must hold a 2-year Associate degree or 4-year Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
• Degree should be in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related technical discipline
• Interest in field service, laboratory instrumentation, medical devices, biotechnology, or life science equipment
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Strong customer focus and professional communication skills
• Highly organized with good follow‑up skills

Additional Requirements

• Must have a valid driver’s license and own or have access to a reliable vehicle
• Must hold a valid U.S. passport for potential travel to Canada
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Ability to travel, including overnight travel, as needed
• Flexibility with schedule and ability to adapt to last‑minute changes
• Candidate will be expected to work from home learning how to assist customer’s on the phone/remotely for technical troubleshooting when not traveling to customer sites

The target annualized base salary range for this position is $55,000 – $60,000.The individual will be paid hourly and eligible for overtime. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
