Job summary

Montclair State University is seeking an Associate Director of Residential Education to oversee student staff programs across two campuses and Capstone-managed complexes. You will supervise multiple roles, design training, and coordinate residency-wide learning initiatives to advance a thriving living-learning environment.

The role requires a Masters in a relevant field and at least six years of residence life experience, with strong communication and project-management skills.

Qualifications

• Masters degree from accredited college or university in higher education administration, student personnel services or related field.
• A minimum of six years of professional residence life or student affairs experience with a record of progressive advancement and supervision.
• Excellent time management skills plus a strong proficiency in written and oral communication.
• Direct experience with professional and student staff supervision, training and development, residence hall activities and educational programs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Residential Student Support Specialist and Graduate Program Coordinator, and indirect oversight of 330 student employees.
• Lead student staff hiring, training, and development for all academic year and summer student staff positions.
• Develop and implement learning objectives, manuals, and training programs for student staff positions.
• Coordinate logistics for training events, speakers, and development activities.
• Oversee recruitment processes including interview design, scoring rubrics, and hiring workflows.
• Maintain the student staff roster and manage onboarding in collaboration with Human Resources.
• Evaluate performance of student staff through structured tools.
• Support student governance, including Residence Hall Associations and councils in collaboration with Assistant Directors and live-on professional staff.
• Collaborate with campus partners to enhance the residential living experience.
• Develop, monitor and evaluate the residential curriculum and make annual improvements.
• Create promotional materials and maintain proficiency in relevant software tools.
