Job summary

Brown University's Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) seeks an Associate Director of IT to lead IT operations, security, and service delivery for the institute. The role requires managing IT staff, coordinating with Brown’s OIT, and planning long-range technology resources to support research and administration, including A/V and web/database needs.

Occasional night and weekend hours are required to align with ICERM events.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in the sciences or engineering or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of IT-related experience.
• Proven record of successfully maintaining and running a diverse computing system in a mixed academic/administrative setting.
• Experience with advanced A/V facilities and video conferencing.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• High professional standards with the ability to manage competing requirements in a diverse user population.
• Familiarity with AI concepts, including machine learning and Large Language Models
• Management experience in a research dominated environment (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Oversee IT staff and operations for ICERM, ensuring security and continuity of institute activities.
• Coordinate with Brown’s Office of Information Technology and technical community, including longer-term planning and resource development.
• Develop and support web interfaces and databases necessary for administering ICERM awards and activities.
• Represent ICERM in institutional IT committees and networks.
