Position Summary

The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions, a key faculty leadership role overseeing student affairs, admissions, and financial aid. Florida Atlantic University (Florida Atlantic) is a public research university with ten colleges, 30,000 students, and six campuses spanning over 100 miles of coastline. Created to address the healthcare needs of the state, the Schmidt College of Medicine is a community-based medical school that admitted its first class of students in 2011. The College includes 175 faculty (103 full‑time and 72 part‑time), 1,274 affiliate faculty members, 326 medical students, 181 residents and fellows, as well as 70 graduate students in biomedical science. Five local hospitals from top healthcare systems in the region, namely Baptist Health and Tenet Health, serve as key partners for undergraduate medical education (UME) and form the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Consortium that offers residency and fellowship programs. The college also has a faculty‑practice plan, Florida Atlantic Medical Group, and is home to the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, offering outstanding research and educational opportunities for faculty and students. Research and development activities in the college drive a university‑wide effort to build key pillars of research strengths consistent with the University Strategic Plan.

Reporting to the Vice Dean for Medical Education and Department Chair, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions will lead an integrated portfolio supporting medical students from recruitment and admissions through progression, key milestones, match, and graduation. This student‑facing leader will strengthen the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) as the clear hub for support and guidance, ensuring a cohesive, student‑centered experience while balancing advocacy with accountability and policy in sensitive student matters. In close partnership with medical education leadership, the Associate Dean will align student affairs programming with the curriculum, lead and develop a high‑performing team through clear roles and professional growth opportunities, build effective relationships with institutional partners, and represent the college with internal and external stakeholders. An M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution, the credentials that merit appointment at the rank of associate or full professor, and at least five years of experience in undergraduate medical education is required. A current U.S. medical license with eligibility for Florida licensure, Board eligibility or certification, and at least 5 years of experience in medical student affairs and medical student recruitment preferred.
