Job summary

Nassau Financial Group, based in Hartford, Connecticut, seeks an experienced in-house counsel to support the Legal Department in insurance, retirement, and investment management matters. You will manage claims, litigation, and regulatory inquiries while building expertise in the company’s products and operations.

The role requires a JD with at least 5 years of life insurance experience and Connecticut Bar admission.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in the life insurance industry (private practice or in-house).
• Admission to the Connecticut Bar.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in insurance law, financial services regulation, or litigation required.

Responsibilities

• Support all phases of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including claims disputes, consumer complaints, and regulatory inquiries.
• Assist in managing outside counsel, tracking case developments, and supporting litigation strategy and reporting.
• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, discovery materials, and responses related to litigation and regulatory matters.
• Partner with compliance and fraud teams to investigate and respond to suspected fraud, policyholder disputes, and regulatory issues.
• Analyze legal and regulatory risks associated with insurance products, distribution channels, and business initiatives.
• Monitor and summarize developments in insurance laws, regulations, and litigation trends impacting the business.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, product, compliance, and operations teams to mitigate legal risk.
