Job summary

New York Life Insurance seeks an Associate General Counsel to join the Employment Law team, advising Human Resources and business units on a broad range of employment matters. This hybrid role emphasizes policy development, investigations, and cross‑functional collaboration across the organization.

The ideal candidate has a JD, NYS Bar admission, and at least four years of related experience, with strong written and spoken communication and a strategic, detail‑oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• JD required; NY State Bar admission
• At least four years of related experience
• Superior written and oral communications skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and executive presence
• Ability to work with business and legal colleagues at all levels
• Rigorous attention to detail with strategic focus

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and counseling on employment related issues (hiring, performance management, employee relations, terminations, leaves and accommodations, wage and hour, investigations, compensation, immigration)
• Draft, develop and implement workplace policies with HR and other functions
• Manage outside counsel on employment disputes
• Draft EEOC and state agency statements
• Represent the Company before administrative agencies
• Monitor employment law changes to ensure policy compliance
• Draft employment agreements, severance agreements and related documents
• Evaluate visa eligibility and prepare/ file nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions
