The ideal candidate has a J.D., Georgia Bar admission, and at least five years of experience in leasing and real estate within a corporate or firm setting.

Qualifications

• Advise on landlord/tenant disputes, construction/maintenance, building code/ADA matters
• Maintain knowledge of leases, deeds, and related legal documents
• Function as trusted adviser to Real Estate and Transformation teams

Position Summary:

The Associate Counsel – Leasing/Real Estate sits within the Legal department and will provide legal guidance to North American GPC stakeholders in the areas of commercial leases and real estate matters. As a member of the legal team at Genuine Parts Company’s Atlanta, GA location reporting to a VP - Legal, this position works closely with cross-functional in-house teams and outside counsel. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, driven, team-oriented, and comfortable working in a dynamic public company environment.

Responsibilities:

• Counsel and provide legal guidance on commercial leases and real estate purchases and sales
• Draft, negotiate, and control workflow in connection with multiple simultaneous leases, amendments, SNDAs, construction agreements, and/or real estate transactions for all GPC North American business units
• Participate in legal and cross-functional M&A due diligence, including title insurance commitments, surveys, and environmental reports
• Assist on post-acquisition real estate integration efforts
• Advise General Counsel, senior management, business teams and litigation counsel on landlord/tenant disputes, construction/maintenance issues, building code/safety/ADA matters
• Maintain knowledge of organization’s leases, deeds, and related legal documents
• Function as a trusted adviser to GPC’s Real Estate and Transformation teams
• Liaise with outside counsel regarding their assignments

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree, Juris Doctorate degree, and a member of the State Bar of Georgia (or an ability to waive in)
• Significant experience in commercial leasing and related real estate matters
• Willingness to take on non-leasing/real estate matters (specifically, commercial contracts)
• Minimum of 5 years’ practice with an established law firm or corporate legal department
• Proven ability to manage internal and external relationships
