Job summary

New York Cares is seeking a Warehouse Logistics Associate to support the coat drive season by accurately counting, sorting, storing, and preparing donated items for distribution to community partners across NYC. You will unload and stage donations, track inventory, collaborate with staff and volunteers, and maintain safety while lifting up to 40 lbs.

Shifts may include weekends or holidays, and prior warehouse or nonprofit experience is a plus; strong Excel/PowerPoint skills are helpful.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1+ year warehouse/event/account management experience, or HS equivalency with 2+ years’ experience.
  • Experience in nonprofit environment is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, in-person, phone, and email.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities; prioritize and plan work.
  • Knowledge of logistics, warehousing, transportation, and supply chain management.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and stand for long periods.
  • Willingness to work weekends/holidays for volunteer engagements.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; Salesforce and QuickBooks a plus.

  • Assist with palletizing, boxing, and preparing items for distributions following safety protocols.
  • Take direction from warehouse leads and collaborate with staff and volunteers to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Lift and move boxes up to approximately 40 lbs., with or without accommodation, and stand/walk for extended periods.

About the Signature Partnerships & Events Team

The New York Cares Signature Partnerships & Events (SPE) department is the partnerships and event management team of the Programs division. Frequently on the ground, the department executes volunteer events with excellence, ensuring participants have the best possible service experience in every New York Cares project or event. SPE ensures that our projects and annual events follow volunteer engagement and programmatic best practices, and that all logistics are effectively managed. We build strong relationships with corporate and community partners by consistently stewarding those relationships. Scope of Responsibilities

The Warehouse Logistics Associate supports the successful intake, organization, and preparation of donated coats and winter items during the coat drive season. This role is essential to ensuring donations are accurately counted, sorted, stored, and prepared for distribution to community partners across NYC.

General Responsibilities
  • Unload, receive, and stage incoming coat donations; verify deliveries and report discrepancies or damaged items.
  • Count and categorize donated items accurately, ensuring clear labeling and organized storage.
  • Support inventory tracking by tallying donations and updating tracking sheets or digital logs as needed.
  • Notify supervisors of inventory quantities or space constraints and help maintain a clean, safe, and orderly warehouse.
  • Assist with palletizing, boxing, and preparing items for community partner distributions while following all safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques.
  • Take direction from warehouse leads, adapt to shifting priorities, and collaborate with staff and volunteers to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Lift and move boxes up to approximately 40 lbs., with or without accommodation, and remain comfortable standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, follow procedures and guidelines, and be dependable, punctual, and team-oriented.
  • Previous warehouse, logistics, or inventory experience is a plus but not required.
  • Work a seasonal, temporary schedule aligned with coat drive timelines; shifts may include weekdays and weekends, with flexibility based on warehouse needs.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree and 1+ years’ experience (or high school equivalency and 2+ years’ experience) in warehouse, event or account management.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit environment is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills, with comfortability in-person, via phone and email.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, follow instructions, and respond to management direction.
  • Knowledge of logistics principles, warehousing, transportation, and supply chain management.
  • Desire to collaborate with team members and cross-departmentally.
  • Easily and quickly build rapport and trust. Foster good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, potential clients, and partners.
  • Professional demeanor, in person, on the telephone, and through written communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Understand social nuances, practices, and worldviews of people of various backgrounds, identities, and cultures.
  • Able to occasionally lift materials no heavier than 25 pounds and be prepared for prolonged standing or sitting during volunteer engagements.
  • Availability to occasionally work weekends or holidays for volunteer engagements.
  • Broad-based computer skills including Excel, and PowerPoint; Salesforce and QuickBooks a plus.
This seasonal role is not eligible for New York Cares full-time benefits.
