An established industry player is seeking an Associate Civil Engineer to manage and deliver essential transportation projects. This role involves overseeing the planning, design, and construction phases of various public works initiatives, ensuring safety and accessibility improvements in the community. With supervisor approval, incumbents may be eligible for intermittent remote work; however, they must physically reside within the Sacramento region or have the ability to regularly report to a City of Sacramento physical worksite with little notice.
This position is within the Engineering Services Division and is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects that maintain or improve transportation facilities. Responsibilities include roadway safety improvements, signal and striping at intersections, bridge replacement projects, multi-use paths, active transportation, and other transportation infrastructure. The role manages projects from initial concepts through environmental and geometric design approvals, rights acquisition, construction, and closeout. Additionally, it involves managing budgets, pursuing grants, and procuring consultants.

Perform professional civil engineering work related to public works, transportation, hydraulics, and structural engineering.
Assistant Civil Engineer: Entry-level, not requiring registration, performed under supervision, with potential for advancement.
Associate Civil Engineer: Full journey-level, requiring registration, handling complex projects independently, and supervising lower staff.
Directed by a higher-level engineer or division head. May supervise subordinate staff.
Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or EIT certificate. Experience: 1 year for Assistant level, 2 years for Associate level. License: Valid California PE registration required for Associate level. Proof of education and license must be submitted at application and appointment.
