Organization Overview

Cientifico Latino, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that aims to promote an environment of inclusivity in the sciences. Our mission is to increase the number of scientists from underserved communities in higher education in the sciences through mentorship, open-access resources, and professional development opportunities. Our flagship program is the Graduate School Mentorship Initiative (GSMI) that helps students from low-income, first-generation, and underserved communities who are applying to graduate school in the sciences with their applications. Through GSMI, we serve 100 students every year with one-on-one mentorship, access to an educational curriculum on applying to graduate school in the sciences, mock interview preparation, and financial assistance.

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and two (2) years of full-time experience in higher education. In lieu of a Master’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) plus five (5) years of work experience in higher education may be considered.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting scientific research and/or mentoring in an academic setting
  • Prior experience working with, mentoring, or providing administrative assistance to college or graduate students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for building meaningful relationships with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging, student-centered curricula and workshops
  • Excellent organizational skills to track student progress and collaborate with program staff and volunteers
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and logistical elements simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote/virtual environment
  • Familiarity with virtual learning platforms (Zoom) and software (Airtable, Canva, Google or Microsoft suite programs for working with documents, spreadsheets, presentations)
  • Experience with communications (social media platforms) and graphic design (e.g., Canva, Adobe suite programs)
  • Coordinate Cientifico Latino, Inc. mentorship programs, which includes the GSMI 2025 program and GSMI Alumni Program, including rolling out webinars, virtual events, and tracking program participants (scholars)
  • Interview and onboard of prospective scholars and mentors, manage scholars and mentor pairs, lead mentorship training for the mentors, host a welcome session for scholars
  • Serve as point of contact for scholars and mentors throughout duration of the program to address questions or concerns
  • Manage volunteers in mentorship programs and providing honorariums to invited speakers
  • Working from an existing curricula, develop an educational webinar series for graduate school applicants and first-year graduate students; host virtual sessions and panels and invite prospective speakers to discuss higher education topics
  • Screen prospective scholar and mentors applications
  • Direct the mock interview portion of the GSMI program, including the recruitment of scientists from Cientifico Latino, Inc. community networks to serve as mock interview mentors, match scholars and mentors for mock interviews
  • Lead community engagement for the mentorship programs which include sharing program updates, share graduate school application resources on fellowships, open houses, webinars, engage with scholars and mentors to address any questions they have on the program, and communicate important deadlines; host monthly office hours to create a space to answer any scholar’s questions on the graduate school application process, fellowships, or how to overcome roadblocks during the application process
  • Host social in-person (local, or travel reimbursed) and virtual events for scholars and mentors enrolled in the mentorship programs
  • Coordinate professional development events at universities, and represent Cientifico Latino, Inc. at educational conferences or events
  • Manage grants, research projects and proposals, and pre- and post-award activities
  • Participate in short- and long-term planning of academic programs that meet institutional priorities
  • Identify and analyze potential funding sources
  • Work with the Executive Director for annual reports and analysis of data for grant reports
  • Perform related duties as assigned

This role is a 100% grant-funded position and employment is contingent upon continued grant funding.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • The salary is $80,000 for 12 months, with the option of extending the contract for an additional year
  • Healthcare reimbursement, up to $400 per month
