Job summary

CalPERS in Sacramento County is seeking an Associate Program Auditor to join the Office of Audit Services. Under the direction of the Staff Management Auditor/Senior Program Auditor, you will assist with planning and conducting public agency audits to ensure compliance with PERL and CalPERS contracts.

The role includes performing complex audits, documenting procedures and conclusions, and participating in discussions on objectives, scope, findings, and recommendations.

Job Description And Duties

Anticipated Interview Dates: We anticipate holding in-person interviews beginning the week of September 21, 2026.

California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) is seeking an Associate Program Auditors in the Office of Audit Services, Employer Compliance Unit. Under the direction of the Staff Management Auditor/Senior Program Auditor, the incumbent assists with the planning and conducting of public agency audits to ensure public agencies’ compliance with the Public Employees Retirement Law (PERL) and California Public Employee’s Retirement System (CalPERS) contracts.

The Associate Program Auditor’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Independently perform complex audits and audit procedures.
  • Document the audit procedures performed and the audit conclusions reached in accordance with the Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Facilitate and participate in discussions of audit objectives, scope, findings, and recommendations.
Telework Information

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Sponsorship

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship. CalPERS does not participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

  • Describe a time when your project plan was upended due to unforeseen circumstances. Please include steps taken along the way to ensure accountability, and what was the outcome?
Minimum Qualifications

All experience and education relating to the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) listed on the Classification Specification should be included in your application package to clearly demonstrate how you meet the MQs for this position. If you have a degree from outside of the United States, you must submit an evaluation of this degree to determine the US equivalency.
