Job summary

The Nagler Group seeks an experienced Employment Law Associate in Portland, Maine. This full-time, direct-hire role involves advising employers and handling a diverse range of litigation and counseling matters within a collaborative practice.

Ideal candidates have 2–5+ years of litigation experience, strong research and writing skills, and a JD from an accredited law school. Maine, New Hampshire, or Massachusetts bar admission anticipated within 6–12 months is acceptable.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active bar admission, or anticipated admission within 6–12 months, in Maine, New Hampshire, or Massachusetts.
• 2–5+ years of litigation experience; employment law experience preferred.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
• Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and legal memoranda.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work directly with clients.
• Strong organization and ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
• Employer-side employment or labor experience preferred.
• Public-sector employment/labor experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Advise and counsel employers on a broad range of employment law matters, compliance issues, and workplace practices
• Represent employers in litigation before state and federal courts and administrative agencies
• Handle matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, restrictive covenants, trade secrets, and other employment‑related disputes
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, legal memoranda, correspondence, and other case‑related documents
• Conduct legal research and develop practical, solutions‑oriented strategies
• Participate in all stages of litigation, including discovery, depositions, hearings, and trial preparation
• Communicate directly with clients and collaborate with attorneys and legal professionals across matters
• Stay current on evolving employment laws, regulations, and workplace trends
