Responsibilities

• Assist clients in navigating agencies such as EEOC, DOL, DOE, NLRB and OSHA.
• Thoroughly investigate claims to prepare for litigation.
• Litigate cases from filing through depositions, motions and trial in federal court.
• Guide clients through mediations and settlement negotiations.

Job description

We are hiring an associate attorney to join our team in New Orleans.

We work on meaningful cases aimed at helping vulnerable individuals facing discrimination and retaliation or other unlawful acts in the workplace. We also litigate civil rights cases on behalf of prisoners and individuals mistreated by police and other government officials. We are looking for attorneys who are passionate about working on behalf of our clients.

This job is best for thoughtful, and highly analytical, lawyers with strong problem-solving skills. Lawyers in this position quickly gain hands on experience alongside experienced litigators committed to helping our community members overcome the adversity they have faced.

We are looking for someone to work with us to:

• Assist clients in navigating the administrative process with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, Department of Education, National Labor Relations Board and the Occupational Health and Safety Commission;
• Thoroughly investigate claims to prepare for litigation;
• Litigate cases from filing the complaint, through depositions, motion practice and trial, primarily in federal court; and
• Guide clients through mediations and settlement negotiations.

Qualifications:

• The firm handles Louisiana, Mississippi and Colorado cases – so the applicant must be admitted to practice in one of those states;
• Possess strong legal research and writing skills;
• Have experience interacting with clients; and
• and prior experience in employment and civil rights is preferred, but not necessary.
