Job summary

Hawkins Parnell & Young LLP is seeking an Associate Attorney with 2-4 years of defense litigation experience to remotely support its New York office. The ideal candidate will draft key motions, conduct depositions, and handle discovery disputes as part of a collaborative team handling toxic tort and civil litigation.

Active licensure in New York and New Jersey is required. Joint responsibilities include managing case workloads, attending depositions, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Active NY bar in good standing is REQUIRED.
• Active NJ bar in good standing is ALSO REQUIRED.
• 2–4 years’ experience in defense litigation; toxic tort is a plus.
• At least 1 year of courtroom experience.

Responsibilities

Job description

Hawkins Parnell & Young LLP is seeking an Associate Attorney with 2-4 years of experience to remotely support its New York office. At Hawkins Parnell & Young, you will have the opportunity to participate in all stages of cases and to make court appearances as part of a team of seasoned attorneys handling toxic tort cases and civil litigation.

The ideal candidate will have experience drafting critical motions and written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and participating in pretrial motions and discovery disputes.

What You Will Be Doing

• Managing a caseload of litigated claims by preparing them for trial, including developing case-specific defense strategies
• Attending depositions, hearings, and/or mediations
• Analyzing discovery, medical records, expert defense strategy, and motion practice
• Researching legal issues and investigating people, businesses, and worksites
• Drafting of briefs, memos, and client updates

What You Need to Bring

• Actively licensed and in good standing with the State of New York (REQUIRED)
• Actively licensed and in good standing with the State of New Jersey (ALSO REQUIRED)
• 2 - 4 years’ experience in defense litigation, with toxic tort experience a plus
• 1 year courtroom experience
• Ability to thrive in a high-paced environment, requiring exceptional organizational skills, juggling priorities, and adhering to strict deadlines
• Client-focused mentality
• Must be a self-starter who can handle multiple projects with competing priorities and understand the importance of deadlines
• Ability to work flexibly and independently within a strong team
