We develop, finance, and manage apartment communities that serve low- and moderate- income families and seniors. Our work spans predevelopment through construction close-out, and we partner with municipalities, housing authorities, investors, and lenders to bring complex deals to life.
Position Overview

The Associate Asset Manager supports the oversight and stewardship of a large affordable housing portfolio, serving as a field and administrative resource to Asset Management. The role emphasizes property inspections, clear reporting, follow-up on physical and operational issues, portfolio administration, and review of property-level financial information.

This position requires exceptional organization, attention to detail, sound judgment, and frequent independent travel. The Associate Asset Manager collaborates with Asset Managers, property management companies, ownership partners, and internal teams to help ensure properties are well maintained, operating effectively, and meeting organizational expectations.

Essential Functions

Property Inspections & Field Assessments

  • Conduct regular site visits across a portfolio of more than 200 affordable housing communities, inspecting building exteriors, grounds, common areas, amenities, vacant units, and representative occupied units, as appropriate.
  • Evaluate property condition, maintenance practices, curb appeal, deferred maintenance, capital needs, life-safety concerns, and other observable physical or operational risks.
  • Meet with property management and maintenance personnel to discuss operations, maintenance needs, and outstanding issues; document conditions with photographs and supporting records.
  • Prepare clear, consistent, and timely inspection reports; communicate findings, identify items requiring corrective action, track follow-up through resolution, and escalate significant concerns to the Asset Manager.

Portfolio, Financial & Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate property files, inspection records, correspondence, reports, databases, and tracking tools; support periodic portfolio reviews, internal reporting, special projects, and portfolio initiatives.
  • Coordinate with property managers, partners, lenders, agencies, and internal teams to collect requested financial, operational, compliance, and property information.
  • Collect, organize, and track monthly, quarterly, and annual property reporting, including operating statements, budgets, balance sheets, occupancy reports, accounts receivable, and other operating information.
  • Review property-level financial and operating reports as requested and maintain organized records that support property and portfolio analysis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in real estate, finance, business, accounting, construction, property management, or a related field preferred.
  • One to three years of experience in real estate, affordable housing, property management, finance, construction, or a related field preferred; affordable housing or multifamily experience is helpful but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage a high volume of properties, reports, deadlines, and follow-up items.
  • Ability to assess property conditions objectively, identify concerns, exercise sound judgment, and determine when escalation is appropriate.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce concise, professional inspection reports and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Basic understanding of property-level financial statements and operating reports, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and related business applications.
  • Ability to work independently, particularly while traveling, while maintaining accountability and consistent follow-through.
Travel Requirements

Frequent travel throughout the organization's affordable housing portfolio is an essential function of this position. Travel may include multi-day trips, air and automobile travel, overnight stays, and coordination of efficient inspection routes. Travel volume may be substantial depending on the annual inspection schedule and portfolio needs. A valid driver's license and comfort traveling independently are required.
