Job summary

Foundation for Affordable Housing, Inc. is seeking an Associate Asset Manager to support oversight of a large, affordable housing portfolio. The role focuses on field inspections, reporting, and coordinating with asset managers, property management, ownership partners, and internal teams.

Travel is frequent, and the candidate should be highly organized with strong judgment to ensure properties are well maintained and operating to organizational standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in real estate, finance, business, accounting, construction, property management, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in real estate, affordable housing, property management, finance, construction, or related field preferred; experience in affordable housing or multifamily helpful but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, ability to manage high volume of properties, reports, deadlines, and follow-up items.
  • Ability to assess property conditions objectively, identify concerns, exercise sound judgment, escalate when appropriate.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for concise inspection reports and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and related business apps.
  • Ability to work independently, especially while traveling, with accountability and follow-through.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site visits across a portfolio of 200+ affordable housing communities, inspecting exteriors, grounds, common areas, and units.
  • Evaluate property condition, maintenance practices, capital needs, life-safety concerns, and risks.
  • Meet with property management to discuss operations; document conditions with photos and records.
  • Prepare clear inspection reports; communicate findings and track follow-up to resolution.
