Job summary

Cleveland State University in Cleveland, OH seeks an advisor to manage a caseload of Say Yes to Education Cleveland participants, first‑generation college students, and those facing academic challenges. You will motivate students through self‑assessment, reflection and campus/community connections to support graduation.

The role requires collaboration, strong communication skills, and a commitment to student success, including evenings/weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
• Three (3) years of experience in advising, mentoring, tutoring, student programming or student services in an educational or programming setting.
• Experience working with student population and recruitment efforts.
• Experience using an early alert/advising system powered by predictive analytics.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree, preferably in student personnel services, adult learning and development, counseling, guidance, education, or a related field of study.

• Skilled in effective intervention programs and early outreach plans for students.
• Working knowledge of student development, education policies, and trends.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication skills, the ability to make effective presentations, have strong public speaking skills, develop, and drive change and effectively communicate change.
• Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and work as an individual contributor and an effective team player, in addition to being self‑directed, and forward‑thinking.
• Ability to effectively engage with stakeholders when issues arise to ensure appropriate communication and develop effective resolution plans.
• Skilled in problem‑solving, analysis, follow‑through, influence, and persuasion.
• Detail‑oriented and capable of managing large amounts of data, maintaining detailed, comprehensive records, analyzing and organizing information, and having time management skills.
• Strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and a “Customer Focus” attitude and delivery.
• Knowledge of working with integrated software systems as an end user and utilizing social networking communications.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
