Job summary

New England Low Vision and Blindness is seeking an Assistive Technology Specialist to help individuals who are blind or visually impaired regain independence through technology. You will evaluate, customize, and train on accessible tools and devices, working with students, adults, educators, and families across New England.

The role emphasizes travel, collaboration with TVIs and rehab professionals, and ongoing client support.

Qualifications

  • CATIS certification, or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Experience conducting assistive technology evaluations and training for visually impaired individuals.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Assistive Technology evaluations and develop personalized recommendations.
  • Provide one-on-one training on screen readers, magnification software, braille tech, video magnifiers, and mobile accessibility tools.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot assistive technology devices and software.
  • Deliver services in schools, homes, workplaces, and remotely.
  • Collaborate with TVIs, educational teams, rehab professionals, and families.
  • Provide ongoing support to ensure clients adopt and use technology.
  • Maintain documentation and service records.
  • Represent the organization at trainings, conferences, and community events.
