Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Labor & Industry, Bureau Of Blindness & Visual Services seeks an Assistive Technology Specialist to train staff, review accessibility, and develop resources. This role focuses on improving access to software and services used across BBVS.

You will test webpages with assistive software, collaborate across BBVS programs, and deliver statewide trainings while telework options may apply after training. The position is full-time in Pennsylvania.

Qualifications

  • Three years of professional experience in rehabilitation work, vocational guidance, employment counseling or placement, psychology, or social work, two years of which must have been in the field of vocational rehabilitation; and a bachelor's degree.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training. Graduate study in the behavioral sciences may be substituted for the required general experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of one year.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Accessibility Training: Lead statewide sessions that teach staff how to use assistive technology effectively
  • Content Review: Check websites and documents for accessibility and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Resource Development: Create guides, forms, and user materials that support accessible software use
  • Technical Support: Use assistive software to test webpages and offer solutions for accessibility issues
  • Program Collaboration: Work with staff to develop trainings, procedures, and reports across BBVS programs
  • Information Sharing: Present updates and guidance at meetings and keep current with agency policies
