Poplar Bluff School District seeks an Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach and Director of Athletics and Activities in planning practices, developing players, and preparing for competitions. This role emphasizes sportsmanship, academic success, and student-athlete growth within a structured, season-based program.

The position requires a commitment to after-school hours, evenings, and occasional weekends; a teaching credential is preferred, with a path towards bus-driver licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education preferred or minimum of 36 college hours or online 20-hour substitute training.
• Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management.
• Knowledgeable of coaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.
• Knowledgeable of and adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Abide by all rules and regulations established by the Poplar Bluff R-I Board of Education.
• Abide by and uphold all rules and regulations established by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
• Actively pursue the licensure to drive a school bus suitable for the sport they are coaching.

Responsibilities

• Coach individuals in sport-specific skills.
• Assist in planning and scheduling regular practice programs in-season.
• Coordinate with Head Coach and Athletic Director for interscholastic contests.
• Assist with equipment and inventory management.
• Support safety compliance and facility conditions for the sport.
• Help establish eligibility criteria for interscholastic competition.
• Enforce sportsmanship and penalties for misconduct.
• Represent the district positively to schools and communities.
